More about Emma...

Emma is the founder of Buttons Accounting, starting in 2004 with the vision to bring a friendly, approachable take on accounting services to allow clients to feel at ease and can receive the level of help they need for their business.

Emma qualified with ACCA in 2002, additionally completing a Level 7 Advanced Professional Certificate in School Financial and Operational Leadership with the CIPFA in 2020. Currently Emma is working towards her CTA qualification with the Chartered Institute of Taxation.

With over 20 years experience Emma has worked across a number of sectors but specialising in the outsourcing of accountancy services and implementation of IT systems/financial reporting.

Not only does she still meet many of her clients face to face, she also oversees the daily running of the firm, making sure staff are happy, clients are serviced well, and that the strong ethos of an approachable accounting firm remains at the forefront of everyone’s mind.

Having started her career with Buttons in 2011, Lorna is a fine example of how nurturing talent is a huge priority to us. From starting as a bookkeeper ten years ago, to taking on more responsibility as a Self Assessment Accounts Manager, Lorna oversees how we deliver our exceptional services to you, our clients. As well as looking after her own clients, she is also responsible for ensuring the lifespace of the Self Assessment tax return client each year, overseeing the initial set up right through to the submission of the tax return.

Though very dedicated to her role at Buttons, it’s not all work….Lorna has two beautiful cats at home, loves going to live music events, playing board games and video games, not to mention enjoying going to the gym.

Joining Buttons in 2015, our Accounts Manager Isobel works predominantly onsite at several of our outsourcing clients, and is responsible for the accounts function and oversees the efficiency of the Buttons team.

Before joining Buttons, Isobel was a self-employed bookkeeper for four years, meaning she brings over ten years of experience to our highly skilled and client focused team.

Isobel has been AAT qualified since 2014 and is now a student with ACCA and undertaking her exams to become a Chartered Accountant.

Along with Sandrine she acts as a Deputy in Emma’s absence.

When she’s not supporting our wonderful clients Isobel loves listening to music, keeping fit and walking….and what better place to do this than Cornwall?

Our VAT and Accounts Manager Sandrine has a wealth of experience in small business, both in England and France!

Managing her own clients as well as mentoring the AAT Level 2 apprentices here at Buttons, Sandrine is committed to providing experience and support which is so vital in nurturing our apprentices’ knowledge requirements and leaving clients with a sense of fulfilment.

Further still, Sandrine supports clients with the preparation for self assessment tax returns.

Having received a qualification in management and finance in catering in her home country of France, Sandrine realised she needed to speak English, so made the decision to move over to Cornwall to be completely immersed with the language and culture…and hasn’t left since – needless to say we’re so thankful she did!
Along with Isobel she acts as a Deputy in Emma’s absence.

When she’s not carrying out her essential tasks here at Buttons, Sandrine loves exploring Cornwall with her partner and children, going to the gym, learning Italian and eating fine food. Sandrine once bungee jumped from one of the highest bridges in France, Grenoble!

Sandrine has now taken on the challenge of studying towards her ACCA qualification.

Since first starting at Buttons in June 2014, Paulina has found her calling – payroll! Embracing the role in 2015, Paulina has worked hard to develop a fantastic efficient and accurate independent payroll service here at Buttons. From processing holidays to dealing with HMRC, she has made the department her own.

Paulina has been able to expand her skillset further since completing her AAT Level 3 and CIPP Practitioners Certificate in Payroll, and is currently working towards AAT Level 4.

Outside of work Paulina enjoys looking after her two cheeky cats, Lilo and Monkey, and a variety of hobbies, from DIY to arts and crafts.

Millie, who is awaiting compeltion of AAT Level 4, is responsible for arguably one of Buttons Accounting’s most important roles – calculating payroll! If we support you with our comprehensive payroll and pension services the likelihood is you will have contact with our highly efficient and knowledgeable Millie.

Millie ensures the team functions well and is organised for each day ahead, allowing everyone to maintain focus on their roles, as well as ensuring client details and paperwork are maintained.

Another example of progression within the business, Chelsea has come on leaps and bounds since starting out as one of our youngest apprentices in 2015.

After completing her AAT Level 2, Chelsea found that she preferred administration duties, keeping her chatty and busy! Now Chelsea is studying CIPD Foundation certificate in people practice, while supporting Emma – one of our more challenging tasks!

Chelsea is always around to offer a friendly, approachable greeting, both in-person and on the phone. When she’s not working, Chelsea loves reading and shopping, and loves her cat Blue (although she’s all black!)

Daniel started with Buttons in April 2021 as a bookkeeper, after previously spending nine years working in construction and completing his AAT Level 2 qualification – so this step for Daniel is great for him, and us! We look forward to nurturing Daniel as we have so many of our dedicated and long serving employees.

In his spare time, Daniel enjoys watching a variety of sports and movies.

More about Kirk...

Kirk oversees our compliance with the many regulations that affect an accountancy firm and its clients. Putting his law degree to use by making our services more comprehensive, particularly to corporate and employer clients, Kirk is a hugely valuable part of the Buttons team.

Kirk spent the first ten years of his career as a civil servant in consumer protection and competition policy, before spending several years working as a compliance and customer relations officer for several firms in the South West financial and housing sectors. He then moved on as a business advisor for two employers offering advice and support to early-stage businesses.

In his spare time, Kirk is an enthusiastic gardener and enjoys swimming.

As Accounts Senior, Jill has taken on the responsibility of training our bookkeepers and apprentices. Jill expertly combines her excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyse financial reports, and phenomenal attention to detail to spot any irregularities.

Finley has been with us since June 2021. After previously carrying out work experience here with us in 2017 he wanted to return to start his accounting career with us. He is now undertaking his college studies to study AAT Level 3.

When not working and studying, Finley is a big fan of football and rugby.

Even as an Accounts apprentice it’s not all work, and in his spare time Tony enjoys playing football.

Our Accounts Technician Thomas started working at Buttons in 2016 as a summer job after finishing his GCSEs and was soon offered an apprenticeship to continue working with us and achieve his AAT accountancy qualification.

Starting as a bookkeeper, Thomas has gradually progressed into handling Self Assessment Tax Returns, VAT returns and Limited Accounts.

Thomas is a huge Plymouth Argyle fan and also enjoys listening to music.

Starting in January 2021, a fairly new member of the Buttons team, Chloe has always been keen to learn about accounting.

In her previous role Chloe was managing reports and stock inventory and realised she wanted to delve deeper into this side of her skills, Chloe now embraces her bookkeeping role efficiently and to an exceptional standard. Chloe is currently studying towards her AAT Level 3.

It’s a wonder Chloe has any time outside of work other than caring for her four dogs, Bella, Bobby, Max and Nelly, though she still finds the time to explore the outdoors. When she was younger, she used to swim for the county, travelling all over the South West to compete.

Becky has been a part of the Buttons team since June 2018. She loves animals and the countryside, and can often be found taking her dogs for walks or riding horses. Becky also has a FdSc in Forensic Science.

Ellie is our marketing expert, so she is clued up on everything to do with social media, getting articles out across different platforms and generally helping us keep up with the digital world, which can be tricky when you’re up to your eyes in accounting work!

Ellie loves walking, going to the gym, exploring different places around the world, and it is fair to say she is slightly obsessed with her little black cat Max.
